Nail Fungus Treatment

Nail fungus as anybody who has ever had it knows is no laughing matter. Nail funguses can be painful and in the worst case scenarios require the removal of your nails.

The reason why nail fungus treatment can require the removal of your nails is that it is an infection of the roots of the nails. If nail fungus isn’t treated early the entire nail can become infected and the only course of action open to your doctor will be removal of the nail.

This is why you should begin nail fungus treatment as soon as you become aware of a nail fungus or suspect one. The longer you wait the more likely it will be that you will have to have either a finger nail or a toe nail removed to prevent the spread of fungus.

See Your Doctor

You should always try to see your doctor for nail fungus treatment as soon as possible. Nail funguses can be tough and they usually don’t respond to over the counter remedies so you will probably need a prescription for one.

There are some things that you can do to prevent the spread of nail fungus while you are waiting to see the doctor. Soaking your toes or hands in a powerful mouth wash such as Listerine can help. Listerine is a powerful disinfectant that won’t hurt hands or feet but will kill nail fungus.

Other disinfectants such as bleach mixed in water can help as well. Be careful with bleach because it is more powerful than you think. Mixing vinegar, oregano and natural products with water and soaking your foot can help too.

Funguses don’t like the dark so don’t paint your nails while you have a fungus. If you have a fingernail fungus try to avoid wearing gloves and if you have a nail fungus wear sandals or open toed shoes with not socks if possible.

Prevention

There are also a few things that you can do to prevent nail fungus from spreading in your home. These can make further nail fungus treatment unnecessary.

Using disinfectant on your shoes after you notice a nail infection is always a good idea. Wash all of your socks and gloves as soon as you notice a nail fungus. Washing down any surface where you walk with your bare feet with a disinfectant like bleach is also a good idea. If possible wash your socks in bleach which can kill nail fungus this can prevent the fungus from spreading.
